Dental cavities are a common problem that is created when bacteria attack your enamel. In the past, dental cavities were filled with a material called amalgam, a combination of metals such as mercury or silver. Now we know that amalgam fillings don't bond very well with the teeth and the mercury may be dangerous to your general health. At East Village Dental Center, our dentists use tooth-colored fillings made with composite resin to fill and protect cavities. We can also remove old metal fillings and apply composite resin fillings for a more reliable and attractive treatment of cavities. To learn more about aesthetic dental fillings, contact our New York, NY office to schedule a consultation.

Tooth-colored fillings usually cover decayed enamel once it is cleaned. At our Manhattan East Village office, we use composite resin to create tooth-colored fillings. Not only is this a strong, durable material, but it mimics the color of the teeth for a seamless smile. Composite resin is a versatile material that can be used to address other concerns with your teeth, such as cracks or excessive wear on the enamel from teeth grinding (bruxism). Since the composite resin is colored to match your teeth, tooth-colored fillings may be used on the back and front teeth. If you have metal fillings, talk to our team about getting them removed and redone with tooth-colored fillings.

This is a very clean, newly renovated dental office. The front desk staff were very helpful and took the time to investigate my insurance plan's dental coverage fully. The x-rays are taken digitally, so you don't have to wait for them to be processed: they're available on the computer instantly. Dr. Feder is very nice and quite experienced - he did three fillings and a cleaning quickly and professionally. I can certainly recommend this place if you need a dentist.

Getting a tooth-colored filling at East Village Dental Center is usually relatively easy. The area surrounding the cavity will be numbed with a local anesthetic to minimize your discomfort. After you are ready, the infected enamel can be removed using a special drill that we will select based on where the cavity is located and the level of decay. Once the enamel is cleared away and the area is cleaned, the space will be filled in with the composite material and hardened. We will polish the filling so it feels comfortable and matches your natural teeth.

You will be able to resume your normal day once your aesthetic dental filling is complete, but you may have some sensitivity to cold and hot food and beverages for 1 – 3 days. You can use nonprescription pain medicine to minimize any discomfort, but you should not experience any major problems. If your filling seems too high or uneven, please contact our office. You can maintain your tooth-colored filling by following a regular home care routine with daily flossing and brushing. During your annual exam, we will assess your filling to determine if it should be replaced or repaired.
